International Repair Day: Giving Products a Second Life

IN THE NEWS

Every year, International Repair Day puts the spotlight on a simple but powerful idea: before replacing something, why not see if it can be repaired?

Repairing helps extend the life of the products we already own, keeps valuable materials in use for longer and can help reduce electronic waste. But repair is about more than products. It is also about sharing knowledge, learning practical skills and bringing people together.

Putting repair into practice

Through LIFE EPICS, this idea is already being put into practice.

More than 25,000 devices have already been repaired across our 11 Repair Corners, giving thousands of products the chance of a longer life.

The Repair Corners show what can be achieved when repair becomes a more accessible option. But creating a stronger culture of repair goes beyond the repairs themselves. It also means raising awareness, sharing knowledge and encouraging more people to consider repair before replacement.

This is where our partnership with Repair Café International comes in.

Together, Euronics Group and Repair Café International aim to make repair more visible and accessible, combining professional repair expertise with the power of local communities.

Repairing together, learning together

Repair Cafés are community meeting places where people can bring broken items and explore whether they can be repaired with the help of skilled volunteers.

Rather than simply throwing products away, visitors are encouraged to understand how their products work, learn practical repair skills and, whenever possible, give them a second life.

From small household appliances and consumer electronics to laptops, furniture, toys, clothing and textiles, many different products can find their way to a Repair Café.

And the impact goes far beyond fixing an item.

Repair Cafés help extend product lifespans, reduce electronic waste and conserve raw materials. At the same time, they bring people together, create opportunities for learning and volunteering, and help preserve valuable repair knowledge by sharing skills between people and generations.

Supporting repair at a local level

Every community is different, and so are the needs of local Repair Cafés. Support can range from technical knowledge, tools and materials to volunteers, visibility, space or logistics.

The partnership between Euronics Group and Repair Café International creates opportunities to connect with these local initiatives and explore how repair can be supported in ways that respond to the needs of individual communities.

Think repair first

As an electronics retailer, we are conscious of the impact that electronic waste can create and of the role we can play in helping products stay in use for longer.

Through the LIFE EPICS project and its Repair Corners, alongside the partnership between Euronics Group and Repair Café International, we are exploring different ways to extend product lifespans, encourage a stronger culture of repair and contribute to reducing electronic waste.

International Repair Day is a reminder that when something breaks, replacing it does not always have to be the first option.

Let’s think repair first and give more products the chance of a second life. 🔧💚
